Grumpus: from meme coin to a character with a brain

Grumpus began as a 2023 meme coin with a homepage to match. We rebranded it end to end, moved it to grumpus.io, rebuilt the site, and gave Paul the Grumpus an AI brain on Telegram: conversation memory, live football predictions with shareable match cards, community polls, and savage full-time reactions.

Grumpus: from meme coin to a character with a brain

Grumpus began life as a 2023 meme coin with a homepage to match: a mascot, a ticker, a buy button. The community around it deserved more than that. It deserved a world, a premium Web3-native identity, and a mascot that actually talks back.

That is a brand job, a web job and an AI job at once, which is exactly the kind of brief a studio that only does one of the three has to turn down. We did all three, in that order.

The brand: a character, not a coin

We rebranded end to end: a new logo, a brand architecture that separates the character (Paul the Grumpus) from the ecosystem (Grumpus Labs), and the move from paulgrumpus.com to grumpus.io. The identity is Web3-native without the usual neon-and-gradient clichés: dark, dry, a little irritated, like Paul himself.

The site: an ecosystem, not a landing page

Full-stack web development on Next.js, with hosting and frontend management as part of the engagement rather than a handover. The site holds the whitepaper, the prediction oracle, the blog and the community surfaces, all under one identity, all fast, all readable by search engines from the first crawl. When the character does something new, the site gets a new room; nobody has to rebuild the house.

The brain: Paul on Telegram

This is the part people remember. We engineered an AI layer that gives Paul the Grumpus a life of his own, where the community already lives: Telegram.

  • Conversation memory. Paul remembers who you are and what you said last time, so the character stays consistent across thousands of chats.
  • Live football predictions. A prediction engine produces calls on real fixtures, rendered as shareable match cards the community posts everywhere.
  • Community polls. The bot runs the votes that used to need a moderator.
  • Savage full-time reactions. When the call goes wrong, Paul says so, in character. That is what makes people come back after the match.

The outcome the community feels: a mascot with memory, live on Telegram, generating the daily reasons to open the chat that a token page never could.

Why the three had to be one job

An AI bot with the old brand would have been a gimmick. A rebrand without the site would have been a logo file. A site without the character would have been another token page. Built together, each part makes the others credible: the brand gives Paul a voice, the site gives him a home, and the bot gives the community a reason to be there every day.

The stack

  • Logo and brand system, domain migration to grumpus.io
  • Next.js site with hosting and frontend management
  • AI Telegram automation with conversation memory
  • Prediction engine with shareable match cards and polls
